Deep Dive: Euclid discovers new comet
ESA's Euclid space telescope has found its first previously unknown comet, spotted in images taken between September 16 and 24. Euclid was built to take deep, steady pictures of distant galaxies, not to track fast-moving objects, so the find shows it can also catch new comets while they are still far from the Sun. That could help pick a target for ESA's future Comet Interceptor mission.
