Did you know? Ancient gods went to war on a stone the size of your thumb
Cylinder seal and modern impression: battle of the gods. Akkadian, ca. 2350–2150 BCE. The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Rogers Fund, 1943. Public domain (CC0).
Long before signatures, people in ancient Mesopotamia signed with a cylinder seal: a small carved stone or shell they rolled across wet clay. As it rolled, it printed a whole scene, again and again, like a tiny movie strip.
This one is about one inch tall and was carved in the Akkadian era, roughly 4,200 years ago. Roll it out and you get gods in battle: figures with bows and weapons, locked in a fight that has no end, because the seal keeps printing it.
The same people told the stories of Enki and Enlil. Come back next Sunday for another seal.

Pentagon UFO Files: Federal Agents Watched a Silent Black Triangle Rise Over a Ridge
The seventh Pentagon UFO file release includes an AARO witness memo on a 2026 sighting by federal agents: a matte-black triangle, about 13 to 15 feet wide, rose silently over a ridge, hovered about 20 seconds, then shot into a canyon in two to three seconds. They saw no engines, exhaust or sound, and the report does not say what it was.

NASA’s Swift Mission Ends, Leaves Behind Scientific Bonanza
NASA’s Neil Gehrels Swift Observatory has ended its science mission now that the spacecraft is orbiting less than 171 miles (275 kilometers) above Earth’s surface. The greater atmospheric drag at this height prevents the satellite’s telescopes from steadily gazing at their astronomical targets. Swift conducted its final observation on Oct.

NASA, Partners Accelerate Lander Development for 2028 Moon Missions
As NASA returns humans to the lunar surface and establishes a long-term presence on our closest celestial neighbor, the agency and commercial human landing system providers Blue Origin and SpaceX have streamlined the designs and changed both concepts of operations for its future crewed landers. Since NASA established initial contracts with Blue Origin and SpaceX for crewed missions to the Moon, the agency has redefined Artemis III to demonstrate rendezvous and docking capabilities between test versions of landers from each provider and the agency’s Orion spacecraft in low Earth orbit next year.
Lumina simulation brings the early universe to life on a record-breaking scale
The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) and Nancy Roman Space Telescope are revealing the universe's earliest chapters in detail. To help astronomers understand what they are seeing, researchers at the Center for Astrophysics | Harvard & Smithsonian have developed "Lumina," one of the largest and most detailed simulations ever created of the early universe.
