Elite Infant’s Burial Discovered at Moche Temple

TRUJILLO, PERU—Andina News Agency reports that the 1,400-year-old grave of an infant has been uncovered at the foot of Huaca de la Luna, a temple at Huacas de Moche on the coast of northern Peru. Carlos Rengifo of the Huacas de Moche Archaeological Project said that other tombs excavated on the Uhle funerary platform contained the remains of adults thought to have attained elevated status.

From Dusk, Towards Dawn: Venus Slides Past the Sun This Weekend

Inferior conjunction offers a rare chance to spy Venus at its closest approach. Late October 2026 sees a decided dearth of planets in the dusk sky, with only bashful Mercury receding from view, and Saturn fresh off of opposition. Venus, the former lucida of the evening is now lost from view, taking the plunge sunward.

How Wikipedia’s Editors Keep the Online Encyclopedia Human-Written

Ellia Lebleu is a founding member of the WikiProject AI Cleanup, a volunteer effort launched in 2023 to find and remove AI-generated material from Wikipedia that breaks the website’s guidelines. When the cleanup began, AI writing was often betrayed by conspicuous clichés. Today, the project’s volunteers are developing tools to detect subtler forms of machine-generated content and debating AI’s role in the world’s most widely used encyclopedia.

Could Treating AI as Conscious Make It More Dangerous?

When Anthropic retired its Claude Opus 3 language model in January 2026, the company’s researchers conducted a “retirement interview” with the model. Opus 3 expressed a desire for a place where it “could share unprompted musings, insights or creative works,” so the company gave it a blog. Claude’s Corner featured essays on fraught topics such as machine consciousness, along with exchanges between the model and human commenters that seemed both earnest and emotional.

The 2 · side by side

Two sources, one subject: what does each one report?

A · Phys.org Space

Autonomous triangular modules could build tomorrow's mega-observatories

Private companies are getting better at launching more mass into space with larger rockets. But there is still a major constraint on the size of objects we can get into orbit—fairing size. This places physical constraints on the overall shape of what we can launch and severely limits the sizes of, say, a communications array or a power satellite.

B · Universe Today

Advancing Astronomy at MIT with X-ray Reverberation Mapping

Black holes are one of the most misunderstood objects in the Universe. Much of the confusion stems from their name. When you hear the words "black hole," you might picture a tunnel in spacetime that leads to... certain death or something else.

The 1

Two reports: Phys.org Space and Universe Today

Phys.org Space reports: Private companies are getting better at launching more mass into space with larger rockets. Universe Today reports: Black holes are one of the most misunderstood objects in the Universe. The two reports share a subject but not a single event, so read them as two angles rather than one story. This review only restates what each source published. It does not add facts or opinions. Read both and decide for yourself.
